From Bartender to Builder
My journey to becoming a successful real estate developer in Edmonton has been anything but conventional, it began in the bustling atmosphere of restaurants and bars, where I first discovered my entrepreneurial spirit. The fast-paced, dynamic environment of bartending and serving was where I learned the basics of business - customer service, managing finances, and the art of the sale.
However, this spirit of entrepreneurship was momentarily put on hold when I ventured into the public sector, working first for the federal and then the provincial government. These experiences, while valuable, were a far cry from the thrill and autonomy of running a business. It wasn’t until I took a leap of faith and purchased a restaurant in Spruce Grove that my entrepreneurial flame was reignited.
Owning and managing the restaurant was a pivotal moment, it was here that I honed my skills in business management and understood the intricacies of property ownership. This venture laid the foundation for my next big step: real estate. I started by dabbling in rental properties, learning the ropes of property management and investment. Before long, I transitioned into commercial leasing, gaining insights into a different facet of the real estate world.
The real turning point in my career was stepping into residential property development as the director of sales. Under my leadership, we achieved significant milestones, including being recognized as the builder of the year. This role was more than a job; it was a passion. It allowed me to blend my entrepreneurial skills with my love for real estate, leading to significant achievements and growth.
My success in residential development was just the beginning, it opened the door to more ambitious projects, including investing in and developing commercial properties in Edmonton. Each step of my journey, from serving drinks to building homes, has contributed to my understanding of the market, the importance of customer satisfaction, and the value of hard work and vision.
As I reflect on my path, from bartender to award-winning builder, I realize that the spirit of entrepreneurship has always been my guiding force, it’s this spirit that has driven me to take risks, chase my dreams, and ultimately find my place in the world of real estate.
